Lenny & Joe's Fish Tale in New Haven, known for their lobster rolls and fried clams, announced their closure on Wednesday, Oct. 7. Owners said that the eatery will close its doors for good on Oct. 18.

“The decision to close our New Haven operation has been a difficult one,” said a letter posted to the restaurant's Facebook page, met with a slew of disappointed comments from restaurant patrons. “We have worked very hard for the past eight months to try and keep the business going. We ultimately realized that the effects of the virus won’t soon go away, and have rippled through our community in ways that deeply affected the Long Wharf business.”

Two other Fish Tale locations in Madison and Westbrook will remain open and accept gift cards that were purchased at the New Haven location.

Restaurant owners thanked patrons to their New Haven location for "welcom[ing them] with open arms."

The establishment reportedly sued their insurance providers in June for refusing to compensate them for business lost due to COVID-19.

“We are thrilled that the two original Lenny & Joe’s will be there for you!” they said. “The Long Wharf staff, customers and our suppliers and the great city of New Haven have our sincere thanks.”
